Interdisciplinary Palliative Education

These courses are designed to increase hospice palliative care expertise at all levels of care and scope of practice. They encompass all facets of palliative care to varying degrees including: disease management, physical, psychological, and spiritual issues, end-of-life care, grief and loss, and self-care. Certificates are issued upon successful completion of courses.

Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care (FHPC)
This 6-week long course emphasizes the importance of demonstrating sensitivity, understanding, and respect for all to improve the experience of those who are living with life-limiting illness. This training is appropriate for healthcare professionals, volunteers, or community members wishing to increase their awareness of hospice palliative care.

Course offerings for FHPC are currently being offered virtually and cost $40.  

 

Advanced Palliative Practice Skills Program (APPS)
The Advanced Palliative Practice Skills (APPS) program is an educational opportunity for Personal Support Workers (PSWs), Health Care Aides and Hospice Volunteers who are graduates of the Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care (FHPC) Training and who are currently working or volunteering in palliative care. APPS is a 6-week long course. Personal Support Workers (PSWs) who have successfully completed FHPC may further their knowledge and skills with this practical course.

Comprehensive Advanced Hospice Palliative Care Education Program for Nurses (CAPCE)
For Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), Registered Nurses (RNs), and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) with passion for, and experience in, palliative care are encouraged to continue their education with this course designed to develop nurses as leaders and experts in hospice palliative care. Classes are held over several months and include homework, applications, and individual mentoring. Prerequisites include the successful completion of the Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care (FHPC). This course is usually 18 weeks in duration.

 Course offerings for CAPCE are currently being offered in a hybrid format (in-person & virtual) and cost $300.
