    The VON SMART© Group Exercise Program offers functional fitness classes to community members 55+ who wish to improve their strength, balance, and flexibility. Exercises can be done sitting or standing, and there are no floor or mat routines. Classes are suitable for active, healthy seniors, as well as those with mobility restrictions, arthritis, osteoporosis, or chronic illness. Emphasis is place on working at an individual pace.

    Benefits of VON SMART© Programs include:

    • Improve physical health, mobility, independence, and energy.
    • Increase and maintain strength, coordination, balance and flexibility – which in turn help to prevent falls.
    • Manage weight and improve lung and heart function.
    • Help to manage chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, stress, arthritis, and osteoporosis.
    • Provide opportunities to meet new people and socialize.

    Virtual Walk, Run, or Roll for Hospice – June 21 – July 1, 2020

    Join us as we come together while being apart to walk, run, and roll in support of VON Durham’s hospice services. This year we need your support more than ever as we continue to provide compassionate and high quality hospice palliative care to those living with a life threatening illness throughout Durham Region.

    Registration is $10.00 for an individual or $25.00 for a family (up to two adults and unlimited children). Your registration comes with a tax receipt and automatic entry into a grand prize draw.

    How it works:

    After you register, map out your own personal route to walk, run or roll. You can travel it however you like (walking, running, biking, rollerblading, etc.) and if you don’t want to go outside, hop on a treadmill, your stationary bike or walk around your house – how you participate is really up to you! Consider setting a new personal walking distance goal or getting your family to sign up so you can all do something fun and healthy together. By participating in this virtual event you will be able to stay active, healthy, and safe in the comfort of your home while being part of a fun activity and supporting hospice.

    Please follow all social distancing recommendations and remember to stay safe when being outdoors.

    Prior to your walk, share your online fundraising page with your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbours. Let them know why you are participating and ask if they will sponsor you.
